This pic is for , who won the Fan prize in the GMB/SSL Contest this year, and wanted me to draw Sailor Pluto from Sailor Moon.
Mind you, I know absolutely nothing about Sailor Moon at all (on account I've been living in a cave for most of my life) so really all I had to go one was a few reference pics and whatever help Wikipedia could provide. So bear that in mind, all of you who would pillory me for stuff I might've got wrong.
Being that the Fan Prize winner only gets a black and white pic (as compared to the Grand Prize winner's colour pic) I wanted to do something to make it stand out just a bit and not be this stark black and white thing in the middle of my gallery so I experimented with some shading with various grey markers to give it a bit more visual interest.
Hopefully that paid off. Congratulations, , I hope you like it!
For having no knowledge of Sailor Moon, you more than did Miss Puu justice. The fact that she's recognizable in black and white is even more impressive (seeing as the main distinguisher for the lot of them is their insanely colored hair!!)
I really like the strength of her pose and the wild background.
I did? *L* Thank heaven--I was really nervous about it, since my style really doesn't translate over to something as willowy as Sailor Moon stuff at all, really.
But if someone who knows what it's all about says I got it right that's good enough for me. Thanks! Glad you liked it! Thanks for the
You totally did. I actually prefer reinterpretations of characters in fanart, rather than copies. So, in that way, your version works even better for me!
I'm glad you said that--one of the reasons that I don't do fanart or such like that is because my take on is gonna be poles apart from the original and I always figured most people wouldn't like that.
This is very interesting. The boldness of the grey tones is very pleasing, and it adds a lot to what still likely would have been a fun and lively piece without them. Bonus points for that background effect, which is just the right kind of rad.
Yeah, it does have a strange sorta Jim Steranko thing going on, doesn't it? Wasn't initially my intention, but I needed a way to liven up things and any of my stock background textures would have overwhelmed the figure, so I dove into Photoshop's clip-art to save the day.
Good thing too--they had an hourglass in there that allowed me to make the background somewhat thematic. Glad you liked it! Thanks for the !
Thanks! I was a bit worried as I have absolutely no feel for drawings these characters that what I'd come up with would look bad, but I'm glad (and VERY relieved) that you like it!
