(I'm assuming it counts as fanart still, since it's not my character I'm just drawing it for someone, right?)

Well, it only took, what? 3-4 months, but here at last is :iconsarapuu:'s prize pic for this year's GMB/SSL contest, which for some reason feels like it was held in freakin' January.

Anyways, the long and short of it is thus--Initially a portrait was requested but since I can't do portraits, I decided to have a nervous breakdown about it instead. Once that passed, an alternate was suggested, and here we are.

Firegirl has been done by other, smarter, more talented people here, f'rinstance--> [link]

All involved are quite brilliant and deserve your patronage. :)

So, Firegirl! Fun pic, and quite challenging, because I couldn't just layer on the detail with a trowel and go have a sandwich when I was done. I did tweak a few things about her outfit, mostly to break up the amount of red a little. Hopefully these tweaks don't contravene the spirit of the character much. Of course, I couldn't get her bustline in any way plausible, but I guess that's one of those things I'll never work out. Just happens, somehow--like losing your socks.

Oh, I like the tweaks that have been creeping in since my initial design was thrown out there. Realistically, I didn't put a lot of planning into it, so every little bit helps.

The bustline is no problem, that's for sure. She's intended to evoke a 1940s-style heroine, and they were not known for realistic breasts either. :)

It's an all-around awesome picture. I love it!

Thank heaven for small favours--like I said, if I felt like I could have gotten away with not changing the design I whole lot, I would've done.

Well, considering who it's for I felt a little odd about handing her something so top-heavy, but I figure everyone's used to it by now and even if it's a bad thing, it's not bad enough to quit talking to me over. Thank GOD.

Everything Sara said, and then some! The belt really does work on her, since it ties in with the look of her epaulets. Not to mention that you're rocking that "I'm a badass" posture here.

All around A+ work! I need to win next year, damnit!

Well, as I told Chris it's a very 70's-ish superhero touch (lotta female heroes rocked belts that were just a load of round shiny things. No one knows why) but I thought it fit with her retro-ish stylings.

Well, my initial concept was that she'd be blowing a fiery kiss at someone. Unfortunately, my skills were not up to depicting a Sonya Blade impersonation, so this was a third option.

The fiery kiss part I'd worked out how to do. It was figuring out the perspective on the hand she was blowing the kiss off that gave me fits. :)

They're a beast. Whether you're doing all the fingers flat or trying to get them to curve naturally, hands are. . .gah. Hard as hell to get right.

She turned out so awesomely uber good!!

I love how she turned out colored, it added so much depth to her from the original inks i saw!

the way you added the purple to the cape really did break up all of the red on her and I love her face.

Her eyes just scream, "I will burn you...in more than one way" It's great!

the background that you did for her evokes the blue flame hotness too, which is superb.

You did a great job, thank you so much for this.

I'm very glad and VERY relieved you liked it! :D

Yeah, I was hoping the alterations would work--for one thing my red markers don't have much variation and for another, I was afraid too much red would be hard to offset against a BG.

It's funny you mention the blue flame BG. The image is Photoshop's fire custom shape motion blurred to give it a wavy flame-y sort of look.
